2016-xray-cpt-changes-affecting-chiropractors-slides-1-638

If you take x-rays in your office, there are a number of additions as well as a few deletions to the CPT code set that will affect chiropractors in 2016.

Let’s take a look at these changes:

CPT codes 72010 (full spine X-ray), 72069 (thoracolumbar standing scoliosis study) and 72090 (scoliosis study) have been deleted as of 12/31/2015.  The new codes that replace them are follows:

72081 – full spine 1 view
72082 – full spine 2-3 views
72083 – full spine 4-5 views
72084 – full spine 6+ views

CPT codes 73500 (unilateral hip, one view), 73510 (unilateral hip, two views), 73520 (bilateral hips two views) and finally, 73550 (femur, two views) have been deleted as of 12/31/2015.  The new codes that replace them are as follows:

73501 (unilateral hip x-ray that includes the pelvis, one view)
73502 (unilateral hip and pelvis, two or three views)
73503 (unilateral hip with the pelvis, four plus views).

To report bilateral hip x-rays, the new codes are as follows:

73521 (bilateral hip w/pelvis x-ray, two views)
73522 (bilateral hip w/pelvis, three to four views)
73523 (bilateral hip w/ pelvis, five plus views)

What to do….

The codes that are listed in that deleted section you will want to get them out of your system, delete them from your practice management system, delete them from your billing codes list, your superbill, whatever it is, so that you don’t bill them by mistake.  Using deleted codes will result in denials and cost you not only in dollars, but in time.

Happy Coding!!!!
